Juan Gil Jumilla red wine 2015

Monastrell

Juan Gil Jumilla Red Wine Bottle

I was fortunate to be gifted this wine by a good friend, who is a big fan of Spanish wines. This particular examples comes from the Jumilla wine region in Murcia, Southeastern Spain. Juan Gil is 100% Monastrell, which is by far the most widely planted red grape in the region. Jumilla has an arid climate with long hot summers. Thankfully Monastrell is a grape that thrives in this heat and can produce wines full of fruit and complexity.

This Monastrell from the Juan Gill winery is a full bodied and fruit forward wine, with lots of dark berry flavours and some spice. It is a very balanced wine, despite its high alcohol content (15%) with a smooth mouth-feel and well integrated tannins. For the price, this wine is highly recommended.
