Shiraz Cabernet Blend
Penfolds is one of the biggest and most revered wine producers in Australia. Founded in 1844 by an English physician who emigrated to Australia, it produces some fantastic wines. Some of my favourite wines are produced by Penfolds, including the Bin 389, St Henri Shiraz and the Bin 707. However, I really did not enjoy this wine. First tasting was full of spice, pepper and blackberries but with a sharpness I just couldn't get past. I hoped it would improve with time, so I left it for a day, unfortunately it was relatively unchanged. It is a medium to full bodied wine with high acidity. It is composed of 2/3 shiraz and 1/3 cabernet sauvignon, all sourced from South Australia and aged in old oak for 10 months. This is the first vintage I am tasting of this wine, so will attempt to find other vintages and update this review as required. However, based on this tasting, it isn't a wine I'd be rushing out to buy.
